L’isola di Texel, dove incontrare le foche mentre il Waddenzee (il mare del Nord) grida la sua forza.

In Olanda si possono incontrare le foche. E in un posto pazzesco, per giunta. È l’isola di Texel, spiagge sconfinate sul Waddenzee (il mare del Nord), dune di sabbia alte fino a venti metri, un faro bellissimo, vento a perdifiato.

Riserva naturale protetta, l’isola di Texel ha anche una sua birra, venduta nei chioschi sulle spiagge. Qui c’è il paradiso di chi ama il vento (si pratica surf, kitesurf, paracadutismo…) e dei bambini che amano gli animali, con fattorie, gabbiani e pecore a perdita d’occhio sulle dune altissime…e le foche!

Le foche popolano il mare del Nord e qui sull’isola di Texel esiste Ecomare, centro per il recupero delle foche che vengono recuperate ferite nel mare o sulle spiagge e rimesse nel loro habitat dopo la riabilitazione.

Ecomare ha anche un acquario (oltre ai fasciatoi sia nel bagno delle donne che in quello degli uomini!) ed è una preziosa fonte di ricerca e studio sul Waddenzee, con scheletri di balene ritrovati sulle spiagge e un bellissimo laboratorio per i più piccoli. Un luogo che non dimenticheremo.

The island of Texel — where you can meet seals while the Wadden Sea roars with its full force.

In the Netherlands, you can encounter seals. And in a truly incredible place. Texel is all of this: endless beaches along the Wadden Sea, sand dunes rising up to twenty meters high, a beautiful lighthouse, and wind that never seems to stop.

A protected natural reserve, Texel even has its own local beer, sold at beach kiosks. It’s a paradise for wind lovers (surfing, kitesurfing, even skydiving…) and for children who love animals — with farms, seagulls, and sheep scattered across the vast dunes… and of course, seals!

Seals populate the North Sea, and here on Texel you’ll find Ecomare, a rescue and rehabilitation center for injured seals found at sea or on the beaches, before being released back into their natural habitat.

Ecomare also features an aquarium (and even baby-changing facilities in both men’s and women’s restrooms!) and serves as an important center for research and education about the Wadden Sea. You’ll find whale skeletons discovered along the coast and a wonderful interactive lab for children.

A place we won’t forget.
