Of oysters, sunsets and the North Sea 🌊✨

La scoperta dell’Inghilterra del Sud non può prescindere da Canterbury. Ci spostiamo nel Kent per visitare quel capolavoro gotico che è la Cattedrale, cuore spirituale della Chiesa anglicana, con l’impressionante tomba di San Tommaso Becket che venne assassinato proprio qui.

Ci siamo già abituati alla tranquillità della campagna inglese che già Canterbury ci sembra troppo caotica (ma molto affascinante) e fuggiamo di nuovo verso la costa.

E per fortuna, perché qui scopriamo il luogo che ci rapirà il cuore: Whitstable. Casette colorate sul porto, tramonto indimenticabile sul Mare del Nord, un pub letteralmente sul mare (The Old Neptune).

E le ostriche, ostriche ovunque, due gocce di limone, il mare del Nord e via a giocare tra i gusci (letteralmente disseminati in ogni centimetro delle spiagge del porto).

Un paese che odora di Nord, semplicità e calma, profonda calma.

Whitstable, non ti dimenticheremo.

Exploring the South of England simply isn’t complete without Canterbury. We head into Kent to visit that Gothic masterpiece, Canterbury Cathedral — the spiritual heart of the Anglican Church — with the striking tomb of Thomas Becket, who was assassinated right here.

We’ve already grown used to the quiet rhythm of the English countryside, so even Canterbury feels a bit too busy (though incredibly charming), and we soon escape back toward the coast.

And luckily so — because this is where we discover the place that truly steals our hearts: Whitstable. Colorful cottages along the harbor, an unforgettable sunset over the North Sea, and a pub literally on the water: The Old Neptune.

And the oysters — oysters everywhere. Just a squeeze of lemon, the North Sea in front of you, and off you go playing among the shells (literally covering every inch of the harbor beach).

A village that smells of the North, simplicity, and calm — deep, profound calm.

Whitstable, we won’t forget you.

Tip: the kitchen at The Old Neptune closes early (very early by Italian standards).
